It has become so spam because of Squidoo's measurement criteria. Also Squidoo doesn't ranks well in my opinion. Other platform do better.
Also - as Ed very specifically said.
Whenever you begin any new content page on any platform.Begin with NO links on it for at least a couple of days - or until you are indexed. Then and only then add ONE.And then ONLY if it is NATURAL to do so add another one.NO content page should be full of links to your money page. You will get stung, slapped, hung, drawn and quartered for sure by Squidoo, Hub whatever platform you are on - and Google to boot.

Joe,in the case of squidoo you can use the amazon plexo module with links to the books, but avoid using the link module. As Bambi said have at least three modules. An intro with your keyword term is good for starters. Later you can link that term to your money page. A text module with no links would be good next, then a poll module and finally an Amazon plexo. Once you are accepted you can add your links. Realize that a couple of months ago Squidoo got Google slapped for spam pages which Ed wrote about here www.tubbynerd.com/2007/07/09/squidoo-slap/ and so they are going to be very careful from now on about what they let in.My own philosophy is if your page doesn't add more to the web than a bunch of links back to your stuff, you shouldn't put it out there. I don't know if yours does or not, but if you keep in mind that you need to add value to the web, not just links to sell your stuff, it can really help you gain acceptance and it makes the web a better place.

Just to clarify for Joe and others....The best way to develop your Squidoo lens is to start with an introduction that is two or three paragraphs. This introduction is also used as the meta description, so it's quite important. Keep it short and sweet. Do not tell your entire story there. Then add two more Text / Write Modules. Use the title of the module as "subheadings" on your page. Again, short and sweet. Tell your story. My preference for a new lens (AKA page) is to close with a comment module. It's friendly, creates an opportunity for feedback and interactivity. An aside: I have a number of lenses/pages that do reasonably well on their own as moneymakers. BUT that is different from what we are doing here. And to reinforce what Caro says: There are quite a few lenses that have ClickBank links for a product that I publish. On some of them, there's a link in every sentence (or almost!). And the link phrases are terms that don't match the product... This is what I think Caro means by unnatural. They probably wonder why they aren't making any sales.Happy day,Anne

You will find some excellent examples among these lenses prepared by Tiffany Dow - she is quite the authority on squidoo lenses.http://www.squidoo.com/tags/Tiffany%20Dow
